Expression vs Suppression

Expression vs suppression

Amazon rain forest, one of the dense and dangerous on this planet. Right in the heart of the Jungle lived a family of sparrows. A strong-willed father, beautiful gracious mother and two lovely little baby sparrows. Life every day was a challenge for all of them. Father flew miles every day to get food for the family, mother kept the two little ones safe and the little ones learned how to live every day, as all this was new to them.

Let's name these birds so it doesn't sound boring or predictable, alright.
  • Father sparrow named Jack Sparrow
  • Mother sparrow named Jill Sparrow
  • A baby boy named Sam Sparrow
  • A baby girl named Pam Sparrow
Pause..

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen to my blog vasifsays.blogspot.com. Thank you for all the love and the time you invest in my write. It's been a while since I last blogged so here I am back again and this time I have another story to tell. So take your cup of coffee/tea, be comfortable and read on as I comment on the fight between Expression vs Suppression.

I've learned that we are aware of who would be victorious in this intense fight although the fight was a close call or rather always a close call. Both these contenders are fierce and have their distinct powers. One gets its power from within and the other gets its power socially. The power within is pure and the power which is social is adulterated, however, don't be misled with the obvious and conclude with a winner because you would be surprised with the fact that one of the contenders has more victories over the other.

Back to the story...

Jack and Jill went up the hill to....... Update, Jack and Jill are responsible parents and do everything in their might to educate and keep the little ones happy and fed. The family had everything that could make them complete and comfortable in the harsh Amazon. It was about time that Sam and Pam learned to fly and be responsible so Jack one day decided to teach the little ones how to fly. However, expressing was never their family forte. Jack did his homework, Jill, too concerned and the little ones excited and nervous at the same time. They were excited to see the world and embrace their freedom and nervous because this would be the most daring and challenging tasks ever executed by them.

Sam and Pam had their imaginations running wild and were undecided how they would express their excitement to their parents. They could not wait to fly and were ready to jump. Jack however, noticed their daring and curious nature and advised caution to both the birds. He made them sit down being a responsible father and educated on the consequences if they failed. Sam was the skeptical one and got over-concerned on hearing about failure and the repercussions he would face on failing. Sam was never an active participant in family and mostly kept to himself and this was his first major step which he thought would earn respect and recognition in the family. He was now scared, unsure of himself and had already failed with-in, even before he tried. He consulted his dad however, received this typical answer, "you are a big boy now". Pam went out first to try and with some struggle, she flew and flew beautifully. Jack and Jill were delighted to see their princess fly and now was the turn of the boy. Jack thought he should motivate the boy, so he too can pass and fly. He said to him, if your sister could do it then why not you, it should be easy for you. Sam went ahead and took the leap, struggled with his wings, tried hard to fly but failed and fell.

Back to my commentary...

As you read the first half of the story you now have learned that the fight just began and in the first round our hero Expression was badly beaten by Suppression. This first round was of paramount importance because it sets the tone of the fight and so does in life. We all express our feelings to be heard and understood but at times or mostly get socially suppressed. Suppression is always a step ahead of expression. Stress and fear are pushed first before even hope can completely grow. Feelings are to be expressed and expressed with pure heart at-least to our family cause that's where all the learning begins, right!

Back at Sparrows family...

Sam after failing the first attempt that day didn't try again as he lost his confidence and after Jack came hard on him on his failure he also lost his belief. This disbelief in himself and his family discrediting his every major decision made a fissure between him and his family. Every time he failed in life his family's reaction only increased the fissure between him and the family. Yes, he learned to fly and did live his life but mostly in Suppression. He blamed himself for all his failures and settled with what was socially right and accepted.

Back to the fight...

This fight became predictable with Suppression gaining points every round and Expression getting beaten up bad. The only time our hero was not beaten up was when he was defending. The fate of the fight was obvious and our hero losing the fight was inevitable. Let's learn about the sponsors of these two fighters. Our hero Expression is only sponsored by one individual who believes in honesty and Suppression is sponsored by everybody who believes life is social acceptance first and living later that too if it's accepted. Today the definition of right and wrong is not based on what's really right rather its power of numbers, majority or trends. So if our hero loses the fight it's not because he is incapable but is outnumbered. It's him against everyone, even the audience, If not against but is not supporting him because like everyone they follow the crowd.

Going back to Sam...

Sam has now grown up from his childhood to adult life. He has a normal life like everyone else around. Sam's family life has not changed much since his first failure, in fact, has now learned to force his words across. This new way of communication was not by choice but learned by time as it was most effective. He knew this wasn't his primary choice and still sometimes made attempts to talk and express but consistent outcomes made his attempts futile. Sam now speaks less but when finds someone who does express and displays love he feels unleashed and does not know when to stop. He ends up trusting someone too much, overvaluing relationships and committing impossible or impractical. Come to think of it, why or rather who's responsible for it?

The final round...

I hope by now you have learned that the outcome of the fight is based on the sparrow's story where Sam is our lead as Expression and the Social world with their self-made rules and laws as Suppression. Till now our hero was down and had been knocked down several times but somehow managed to get back on his feet. It was a predictable win as odds were all against our hero, to that I say, not when I am writing the story. Remember Sam found a way to put his words across, so did our hero Expression found a way to turn the tables. The way both got it done was by turning their emotions from Expression to Aggression. Sam used aggressive emotions to put his words across because every other approach was a failure and our fighting hero turned his strength into aggression and punched back with all his might. The final round was a sight worth watching where Expression who now turned into Aggression knocked out his opponent with maximum power. The audience who were all supporting Suppression now started cheering the winner Aggression because now, he was in trend. The world too wants a miracle but does not have the strong will to do so and when someone steps outside the ordinary they point fingers only till you achieve a miracle then all those fingers come together to salute. Our hero was Expression remember but after the victory of Aggression, we assumed it's a good ending, at-least the evil Suppression lost but haven't the hero now turned evil? Come to think of it, why or who's responsible?

I shall not be the judge and comment on it but rather just say, all has not been lost and there is still time. I am just a storyteller and you the readers.
If you do find someone who displays more aggression remember that someone has suppressed his expressions so please don't be judgmental and conclude on a personality.

Finally, Express and help to express!  First, find Sam in yourself and then you would see him in others. Thank you for reading.

Sam
